The Cygnus is a family of twin Hybrid Pulse Detonation - Afterburning Turbofans engine multi-role mild stealth aircraft.
The Cygnus was developed and built by Sentry Alliance, a tri-national consortium consisting of Airtech (previously IPTN), EADS (previously MBB of Germany), and Sukhoi of Russian. Due to its multirole nature, it was able to replace several different fleets of aircraft in the adopting air forces.
There are three primary variants of the German's Cygnus; the Cygnus IDS (interdictor/strike) fighter-bomber, the suppression of enemy air defences - the Cygnus ECR (electronic combat/reconnaissance), and the Cygnus ADF (air defence fighter) variant.
The Cygnus ADF is an interceptor variant of the Cygnus. The aircraft was originally designed to intercept flying bombers and Cruise Missiles.
Although the ADF has 80% parts commonality with the Cygnus IDS, the ADF has faster acceleration, improved engines, aerolasting wings from Messerschmitt ME-70 Corvenius
, greater fuel capacity, Side Weapon Bays, and software changes.
