This would probably be the abandoned project that had some elements that were later somewhat
incorporated into the F-35 Lightning II produced by Lockheed Martin. Originally the F-35 was called
the Joint-Strike-Fighter because it would serve all branches of the U.S. Military, the Navy, Army, Air Force,
and Marines. Powered by a single Pratt & Whitney turbojet engine, the F-35 is capable of both vertical
and normal takeoffs and has all smooth edges with weapons located inside concealed compartments
to lessen the plane's radar signature even more. The aircraft can reach speeds of over 1,000 mph

One reason why the fighter was built was to replace the aging Harrier Jump Jet. The Harrier had VSTOL
capabilities but due to it's design it could not fly at supersonic speeds and had a rather large radar
signature. The F-35 solved all those problems and more. The Harrier has been retired now and the
British and other countries have purchased dozens of them. The plane's costs vary. Without its engine,
weapons and a few other items one can be purchased at a relatively low price of just $89 million. With
all features it can range from $300 million to half a billion U.S. dollars. The fighter is expected to remain
in service until 2040 and maybe 2,000 of them will be produced.

I don't know if you knew all that or not but you probably knew much of it since you're into this stuff.
You're a great artist. The F-35 is a great and super cool fighter but it's getting some competition now.
France, Korea, Japan, China and of course Russia have all started to develop their own similar fighters.
Russia's version actually is a two seater which places both pilots side by side instead of one in front of
the other and if built will be the first fighter plane ever to incorporate such a feature. With the HUD placed
inside the helmet instead of the traditional dash-mounted version it will be much easier to follow targets.

Also in development in the U.S. and other countries are heads-up-displays that fit over the wearer's eyes
like sunglasses and normal flight controls for backup. Also in development is the main flight controls used
will be controlled from a band that fits over the wearer's head and use brain waves for their commands.
CPU assist programs will help the pilots if they lose control of the plane and if necessary, in the case of
which the pilots' going unconscious due to tremendous g loads, will fully take control to try to bring the
aircraft back under control. Capabilities such as takeoffs and landings performed by the plane itself
without any input from a human controller and controversial automated weapons systems are either in
development or already in use. Of course autopilot is naturally included as well as thermal night vision
and smart (fire and forget) missiles which can be launched as far away as 20 miles from their targets.
Some weapons are GPS or satellite guided and if the target is permanently still such as a building the
missile can be launched from many hundreds of miles away and hit their target with the accuracy of only
a few feet off.
